Hosts: Ted Fox and Nicole Hamilton
Performers in two Dance/Physical Theatre works in SummerWorks Festival 2014 taking place in various venues in Toronto August 7 to 17th. Go to links for details of each piece, times and venues:
Montreal-Based Performance Artist Leslie Baker on her solo show F**k You! You F**king Perv! in which she probes the psychological trauma behind the worst kinds of abuse--including torture, murder and pedopohilia. Originally presented in Montreal in Studio 303’s Edgy Women Festival, then toured to the Aquarius Era Festival of Physical Visual Theatre in Bulgaria. Baker's work is an interdisciplinary blend of heightened corporal expression with image, sound and text.
Dancer Laurence Fournier Campeau from Danse Carpe Diem on Ecoute Pour Voir, which consists of a variety of solos performed simultaneously. Equipped with headphones attached to an iPod, dancers and viewers share a choreography face-to-face over the course of the music. Audience members are free to wander from one dancer to the next and observe the subtle intricacies of dance up close. Presented in partnership with Workman Arts, one of the largest and longest-running multidisciplinary arts and mental health organizations in the world. The company went into Manoir St-Léonard des Résidences Soleil in 2013. All year long, two times a month the dancers met with a group of elderly residents, performing one on one.
Also this guest, who is not in SummerWorks: Ordained Minister Sheldon Neil, Artistic Director of The Sheldon Neil Company, talks about his creation of Sole Purpose Mime in the context of liturgical praise dance. Sole Purpose Mime silently interprets positive messages delivered through song, spoken word, instrumental and theatrical avenues. Combines these with various elements and styles of interpretive dance.
